Every great product is founded on solid basis: for us, that is data. It is what allows us to make informed decisions, constantly evolve, and offer the best possible experience to our users. To find out what happens behind the scenes, we chatted with one of our Data Engineers. He told us about his job, the concrete impact it has, and how every day he contributes to making Satispay a more agile, efficient, and future-oriented company.
My morning always starts by checking that all the overnight data jobs finished without problems, especially those that load information for other teams. Once I’m sure everything is running smoothly, I join a quick stand-up with the Data team to share what we achieved yesterday and any issues we’re facing.
The rest of my day is mostly spent building and improving our data pipelines—adding new sources, improving transformations, or designing efficient data models in our warehouse. Sometimes, there are issues to solve, such as a failed job, anomalous data to investigate, or anomalies reported by the analytics team. Finally, I try to reserve some time to explore new tools and ideas that could improve our data platform.
To keep our systems reliable, we run on AWS so we can easily scale up when needed. Each data pipeline operates independently, so a failure in one area won’t take everything down. We have end-to-end monitoring and alerts on every critical component—if a job stalls or a metric falls outside its threshold, we’re notified immediately. Built-in data-quality checks run at multiple stages to catch errors early. And because our entire infrastructure is defined through code, we can reproduce, update, or roll back environments quickly and safely whenever we need to.
Whenever a team needs new data, I start by meeting with them to learn exactly what question they’re trying to answer and how important it is for the business. We evaluate the expected value to effectively prioritize incoming requests. From there, I turn their requirements into a clear technical plan, deciding which sources to use, how to transform the data, and how to deliver it. Maintaining open lines of communication through regular documentation ensures that everyone stays aligned.
In the early days, analysts had to query raw data directly, and as the data volume grew, simple reports started taking up to ten minutes to run. To solve this, we introduced a dbt-based semantic layer where we transformed raw tables into clean and easy-to-use models. This change cut average query times from ten minutes down to about fifteen seconds. As a result, analysts became much more productive, and teams across Satispay could make data-driven decisions far more quickly.
The desire to simplify and the ambition to create innovative solutions are at the heart of Eknid's work. If you also want to make a difference by building the foundations of our future, discover our open positions and apply
