"It feels a bit like detective work" — a FinCrime Analyst's day at Satispay

July 1st, 2026

Vittoria started her career as a FinCrime intern at another company in Milan, before joining Satispay in Luxembourg as a Financial Crime Analyst. The work she does is rarely visible from the outside: reading transactions, spotting the ones that don't add up, and helping make sure the financial system stays trustworthy for the millions of people who use it.

We sat down with her to talk about the move, the role, and what most people get wrong about her job.

You started as an intern at another company in Milan, and joined Satispay as an Analyst in Luxembourg. How has the transition been?

I started my FinCrime career as an intern at another company in Milan. That's where I learned the basics of the role.

When I was looking for what came next, I had one real requirement: a team I could keep learning from, one that felt as supportive as the one I was leaving. I was open to relocating abroad if that's what it took.

Moving to Luxembourg meant a step up — more responsibility, and an international team. A new country and a new office came with their own challenges, but I've grown a lot from it, at work and outside of it.

"Financial Crime Analyst" sounds intense. How do you usually explain what you do to friends outside of fintech?

I usually tell them my job is to help protect the company and its customers from financial crime. In practice, that means reviewing alerts, looking into unusual account activity, and making sure we follow the regulations designed to prevent money laundering and other financial crimes.

It does feel a bit like detective work — every case is different, and most of it comes down to paying attention to details and thinking carefully. But there's also a bigger picture to keep in mind: balancing risk, compliance, and the customer experience.

What's your favourite ritual during the office day?

Definitely the coffee breaks. They're a chance to step away from the desk, catch up with colleagues from other teams, and talk about things that have nothing to do with work. Those small, informal moments are what make the office feel genuinely welcoming.

FinCrime is rarely a solo job. How would you describe the team, and how often do you work with other teams?

What I appreciate most about the FinCrime team is how naturally collaborative it is. People share what they know, talk through cases together, and step in when someone needs a second opinion. Since no two cases are the same, getting different perspectives often leads to better decisions — and it's one of the main ways I keep learning.

The work also takes me beyond my own team. Compliance, Fraud, and Investigations are regular partners whenever a case needs more context or a coordinated response. That cross-team work helps us close cases better and gives me a much wider view of how the business fits together.

What's your favourite thing about the Luxembourg office?

What I like most is the balance between focus and openness. It's calm enough to actually get work done, but the people are easy to talk to whenever I need a hand.

The team is also really international, which I appreciate. Working with people from different backgrounds makes the day-to-day more interesting and brings in points of view I wouldn't get otherwise. The open layout helps too — it's easy to ask a quick question or pull someone into a conversation. Overall, it feels like a place where I can focus when I need to, without feeling cut off from the people around me.
