Satispay accelerates with Claude: 75% of code written with AI, 50% more new features in the first half of 2026

The Italian fintech adopts artificial intelligence across its main internal processes: the engineering team completes an 18-month roadmap in 7 months, while the core payment system is updated in 4 days instead of 4 weeks

Milan, 22 May 2026

Satispay, the super-app that makes managing money and financial services simple and accessible for more than 6 million users, presents the results of adopting Anthropic's Claude products to support its teams and internal processes. In less than a year, the fintech has made generative AI an integral part of everyday work in engineering, finance, marketing and operations: today, more than 75% of the code produced each month is created with Claude and over 90% of engineers use it as a standard tool.

The results can be measured in development speed: a technical roadmap initially planned over 18 months was completed in 7, and the core system that handles every single payment on the Satispay network was updated in under 4 days, compared with an initial estimate of four weeks. On this basis, Satispay is on track to release approximately 50% more features in the first half of 2026.

From engineering to the whole company: planned integration, unchanged responsibility

In a context where workers still too often spontaneously use unauthorized AI tools (source: Politecnico Observatory on AI), frequently outside company processes, Satispay is an example of governed adoption: AI is integrated into workflows, measured through impact metrics and accompanied by significant cultural investment.

Claude Code is installed on every engineer's laptop from their first day of work, with no additional setup. Adoption reached 90% in 30 days, managed by IT staff. The guiding principle is explicit: the model is an accelerator. Engineers remain fully responsible for everything that enters the codebase.

Dario Brignone, Co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer of Satispay: «For Satispay, which has built its history on payment innovation, the challenge today is to turn a technological vision into new services for millions of people at an ever-faster pace. Adopting Claude has enabled us to plan the release of approximately 50% more features in the first half of 2026, a leap in speed that traditional organizational models would not have allowed. While the quantitative figure is important, the qualitative one is even more decisive: we have given people more powerful tools while strengthening the culture of responsibility. AI is an accelerator, not a substitute for human judgement — and at Satispay this distinction is not a policy; it is part of how we work. After redesigning the product roadmap — Brignone concludes — we are exploring with the same care how AI can further increase the value of the services we bring to our 6 million users and our network of 450,000 affiliated stores, always with the aim of simplifying money management and making it easier to understand in everyday life».

The context: an established payment platform, a rapidly expanding team

When CTO Fabio Rapposelli joined the company in 2025, the engineering team consisted largely of junior staff and some of the code took a long time to modify or update. As a result, senior engineers had to balance two equally important responsibilities: supporting younger colleagues in their development and advancing architecture and new features. With Claude, they did not have to choose: the tool bridged part of the experience gap, enabling junior staff to work more independently and senior staff to focus on both areas without compromise.

How it works in practice

Satispay selected Claude after a structured 30-day evaluation using real tickets and comparing multiple AI coding tools. The decisive criterion was not generation speed but the quality of the reviews: Claude identified real issues and explained their causes at a level the engineers recognized as genuinely useful.

Today, engineers use Claude to write new code, modify existing services, find their way through unfamiliar parts of the codebase and perform an initial automated review before the human review. Around the core tool, the team has built reusable components: the most concrete example concerns data-transformation functions, small components that perform anti-fraud controls, compliance checks and information normalization for every payment. Writing them manually took 3–5 days. Today, they are generated automatically from internal specifications in under an hour.

Fabio Rapposelli, CTO of Satispay: «As industry pioneers, we had a mature payment codebase, and the team of junior engineers spent more time reading code than writing it, while senior staff ended up acting as teachers rather than architects. With Claude, we changed the model: the tool is on every laptop from day one and is used to write new code, modify existing services, navigate unfamiliar parts of the codebase and perform a first review before the human one. The clearest result is the update to our core payment system — the one that handles every transaction on the network — completed in under four days instead of the four weeks forecast, ten times faster than expected. And we completed a code-evolution roadmap that we estimated would take 18 months in 7. At the same time, we have industrialized operations that previously took days: data-transformation functions for each payment are now generated automatically in under an hour, compared with the three to five days previously required. We are entering a phase in which the engineer increasingly becomes the manager of a team of agents: junior staff can operate above their experience level because AI provides valuable support, while final control remains firmly in people's hands».

Thomas Remy, Head of France, Southern Europe & META at Anthropic: "Satispay's engineering team has demonstrated in practice what it means today to develop at a completely new speed. Compressing an 18-month roadmap into just 7 months and updating the core payment system ten times faster than the expected timeline represents the kind of step change that can happen in cutting-edge companies. Making the capabilities of advanced AI models available to the Italian economy is a priority for us. To do so, it is essential to earn the trust of Italian businesses by developing Claude according to the highest safety standards, suitable for regulated and critical contexts such as digital payments".

Beyond engineering: finance, marketing, operations

Claude's expansion beyond the technical team happened organically: once the expertise acquired in engineering became visible internally, access requests began arriving at a rate of around 20 per day from finance, marketing and operations. One telling sign was that the CFO himself was among the first to request access, having independently identified the tool's financial-analysis potential.

Next steps

Satispay is experimenting with further levels of automation, always keeping a person in the decision-making loop for critical choices. One initial pilot involves automatically generating draft code from tickets opened by other teams, with engineers responsible for review and final approval. A second pilot concerns transaction protection: AI supports real-time monitoring, while the specialist team retains control over critical decisions.

Satispay

Founded in 2015, Satispay is the super-app and proprietary payment network that makes managing money and financial services simple and accessible. With a constantly growing community of 6 million people, the platform allows users to pay via smartphone (at in-store and online merchants), transfer money free of charge and access numerous value-added services: the Cashback Points loyalty program, Buy Now Pay Later to split everyday expenses into 3 interest-free instalments, mobile top-ups, payment of slips, car and motorcycle road tax, PagoPA, gift cards, Donations and savings. After consolidating its experience in the B2C market, Satispay extended its model to the B2B market. In September 2023, it entered corporate welfare with the innovative Satispay Meal Vouchers and Fringe Benefits, followed by the Satispay FlexBen platform, which simplifies the management of reimbursements and pension funds. In just over two years, Satispay has positioned itself among the leading operators in the sector, with more than 40,000 client companies whose employees it offers a new generation of welfare tools that are simple and quick to use, as well as one of the broadest spending networks in Italy (more than 400,000 affiliated in-store and online merchants). Finally, Satispay expanded its offering with the Investments section and the Invested Money Box, making investing accessible even to those approaching capital markets for the first time.
