The Italian savings market presents a clear structural paradox: a strong theoretical inclination toward planning is not matched by an effective ability to turn intentions into concrete long-term choices. Satispay, the super-app that makes managing money and financial services simple and accessible, is taking another step in its commitment to turn Italians from savers into investors. Following the Invested Money Box and Investments section, it is now expanding its reach in corporate welfare with its Pension Education service: a structured program designed to give employees full awareness as they build financial security for their future, including in light of the changes introduced by the 2026 Budget Law (Law no. 199 of 30 December 2025) on supplementary pensions from July 2026 — including the portability of the employer contribution, effective from 31 October 2026.
Alberto Dalmasso, CEO and co-founder of Satispay, explains: "With the Pension Education service, we want to bridge an information gap that affects the entire system. Forty-eight percent of workers leave their severance pay in the company through inertia, not as a conscious choice, and almost 6 in 10 young people say they are willing to take out pension products — provided they find simpler formats and someone they can trust. Technology offers extraordinary access opportunities — and that is what we do every day with Satispay. But the data tells us that 1 in 2 Italians still wants to speak with an expert to understand which pension fund is best suited to their circumstances. The Pension Education service was created precisely to address this need: because access to information alone is not enough; people also need someone to guide them in making informed choices. With more than 40,000 client companies and over 350,000 workers using our welfare services, we can now make a tangible impact in this area. The real challenge is to give people clear information and simple tools to build awareness — and turn uncertainty into independent choices, giving Italians full control over their future".
The data: an Italy caught between intention and action
The "Italians and supplementary pensions" Observatory, conducted between 13 and 28 April 2026 by SWG for Satispay on a representative sample of Italians aged 18 to 74, portrays a country caught between a strong need for future security and pronounced present-day uncertainty. Although 58% of Italians describe themselves as "planners", the potential remains largely untapped: almost one in two would like to plan their financial future but already feels behind, held back by uncertainty and limited access to clear information.
The severance-pay issue and information risk
When it comes to supplementary pensions, awareness of severance pay is widespread, but the choice to leave it in the company — which still applies to 48% of Italians — is often the result of inertia or a lack of clarity about the alternatives, rather than a conscious preference. Forty-three percent of respondents are unaware of the changes that will come into force next July and October, creating a clear information risk. The greatest untapped potential emerges above all among the youngest people: Gen Z is the generation with the greatest technical uncertainty, but also the one most ready to act, with almost six in ten willing to take out pension products as they would investment products, provided they can rely on simpler, more accessible formats. Moreover, the human element cannot be overlooked: one in two respondents still prefers a direct conversation with an expert as their first point of access.
The Pension Education service: how it works
With its Pension Education service, Satispay is taking on the challenge of providing the knowledge tools needed to turn an existing intention into actual decisions, reducing the barriers of perceived complexity and scepticism. It turns a complex topic into a simple, structured program for companies and employees. The service first includes a training webinar for the entire company, an interactive session that provides the foundations of pension education and saving for the future, helping everyone understand how the pension system works, the role of severance pay and the main supplementary pension options. Alongside this group introduction, employees who request it can attend individual meetings with experts, during which each worker can obtain clear information about their pension position. The entire package is funded by the company, which can deduct it in full or finance it through Interprofessional Funds: for employees, it is therefore a zero-cost benefit. The service was created to clarify pension choices while also easing the operational burden on HR departments and turning pension education into a practical tool for attracting and retaining talent.
